Chester Tips: Dickie’s Lad

Proven over 6f, but has the pace to handle a drop down in trip. Well drawn and unexposed.

Nothing drawn wider than stall 7 has won this race in the last 10 years and as usual at Chester it pays to focus on the horses drawn low. With several front-runners the 3.05 could be a burn-up therefore it is useful to look at horses proven beyond five furlongs.

Dickie’s Lad has been spoken of as Wokingham and Steward’s Cup horse, both big handicaps over 6f, but he should have the pace for 5f. He’s been touched off by a nose and a head, when trying to make all on his last two starts, both times showing good early speed.

In stall 3, he has an excellent draw and if he can sit behind the pace, his extra stamina should see him pass a couple of rivals in the last half-furlong to win the race at 11/2 with William Hill.
