Chester Tips: Century
His performance in the Racing Post Trophy was all wrong. He should be given a second chance because he won his maiden in fine style.
Aidan O’Brien has won the last two renewals of the Dee Stakes (2.15 Chester) and can land the hat-trick with Century.
A highly regarded colt, he finished tailed off in last year’s Racing Post Trophy despite being sent off third favourite. Connections blamed the ground but whatever the reason it was too bad to be true.
Century is better judged on his impressive maiden win last year. Caught too far back in a slowly run race, he powered through the field in striking fashion.
His victory at the Curragh came in the same race Magician won in 2012, who subsequently won last year’s Dee Stakes.
Century is another of Aidan O’Brien’s talented string who deserves a second chance and at 10/3 (Betfred) he is an attractive price.
