Chester Tips: Laughton
Undone by a steady gallop last time and a truly run 5f should be more to his liking.
Laughton’s last two wins have come at 5f and a return to the minimum trip can see him regain the winning threat in the 8.20 Chester.
Last time out at Doncaster a steadily run 5.5f seemed to be his undoing. Kestrel Call was better positioned at the front of affairs (105.5% finishing speed quicker than par) and although Laughton battled hard, running the fastest closing sectional, he couldn’t get by.
The 3-year-old lost nothing in defeat and accounting for the steady pace, earned an adjusted speed rating of 81. That figure backs up the good number he clocked when winning at Redcar and he is an improving sprinter.
A mark of 78 slightly underestimates his ability and the way he travels suggests there is more to come.
