Queen’s Vase Tip: Gunnery
Stayed on strongly at Chester in a race that wasn’t run to suit. Should enjoy the step up in trip.
Gunnery has been crying out for a step up in trip and the two-mile test of the Queen’s Vase should be perfect.
Last time out he found the tight turning Chester track too sharp and the fact they didn’t go much of a gallop didn’t help either.
Despite these issues he still clocked the fastest closing sectional and was only beaten a nose after letting the winner get first run.
Ascot’s stiffer, more conventional track should suit and the time of the Chester race suggests he is a good deal better than a rating of 88. Whether he is good enough to win a Listed race at Royal Ascot is another matter but at 16/1 (BetVictor) we can pay to find out.
