Chepstow Tip: Caldermud

Has the plum draw and a good runner-up last time out.

A big field contests the 6.40 at Chepstow in a competitive race. On the straight track the best place to be is drawn high. Horses that run against the stand’s rail are heavily favoured. Drawn in stall 17 of 17; Caldermud is the lucky beneficiary.

Still a maiden, this four-year-old put in a career best when second behind Beckermet last time out. Drawn in stall one, he was forced to race away from the action. With the finish developing down the stand’s side it was a highly creditable effort that he stayed in contention.

Having dropped 14lbs from the start of the year, this horse is finally racing in his grade. He handles ease in the ground, has a good draw and is in good form. At double figure odds he rates as a value bet.
