Chelmsford Tips: Secret Lightning

Chelmsford Tips: Secret Lightning

Been in terrible form for most of 2016 but tumbled down the weights as a result and there have been signs of life on her last two starts.

Secret Lightning has been horribly out of form this year but as a result is 14lbs below her last winning mark and it the last month there have been signs she is emerging from her slump.

Two starts back she was beaten 12.5 lengths at Ripon but that was in a class 4 handicap and she couldn’t sustain a strong pace. If that pace was unsettling, things got a lot worse at Thirsk.

Secret Lightning tracked a suicidal pace set by Alans Pride which meant that her finishing speed was 96.4% of her average race speed, a dramatic slow down caused by the blistering early gallop.

Considering the way the race was run she did well to finish 6/15 an even though she was beaten 9.25 lengths, when adjusting for sectionals her speed rating gets bumped up to a respectable 62.

In the 8.10 Chelmsford she is racing off a mark of 52, the only other time (apart from Thirsk) she been this low in the ratings, she won. Mick Appleby’s filly is better than this grade and I’ve seen enough to suggest she is ready to turn the corner.
