Chelmsford Tips: Upavon
Runner-up three times this winter but slight ease in grade and likely strong pace will suit.
Upavon has been knocking on the door all winter and deserves to win a nice sprint handicap. Runner-up three times in as many months, he was second at Wolverhampton five days ago.
Yet again he put up another good speed figure in defeat and the slight ease in grade works in his favour. The 7-year-old is 0/13 in class 2 races but 3/16 in class 3 contests.
This evening he also drops down in trip but the 5f around Chelmsford suits him well. He finished 2.25 lengths behind the high-class Lancelot Du Lac in early January, not getting a clear run and it was a similar story when finishing 4 lengths behind Encore D’Or.
Although he is yet to win at 5f, I think he’s got the speed (keen at Wolverhampton last time) and with plenty of pace in the race, this might fall his way.
