Chelmsford Tip: Ballylare
Runner-up in a seller last time but earned a good speed rating of 76. Take out his run on soft ground and his 2016 record is 2122.
Ballylare might have finished second in a lowly seller last time out but on the clock, it was a strong race for the grade.
From a wide draw Ballylare tried to make all and skipped clear of the field turning for home. Unfortunately, he was cut down by Chelwood Gate, who came with a withering run from the rear and covered the final 2f in 21.91s.
There is no shame in losing under those circumstances and the handicapper has kindly dropped him 3lbs.
Ballylare earned an adjusted sectional speed rating of 76 in defeat, which is usually good enough to take a hand in class 4 handicaps. His front-running style will be suited to the track and if you take out his run on soft ground at Chester, his record this year is 2122.
Lee Carter’s done a shrewd bit of business and can open his account with the horse in the 3.20 contest.
*Returned SP of 8/1.
