Brighton Tips: Novalist

Unusual for Robin Bastiman to have a runner at the track but conditions ideal for this two-time winner on soft.

Captain Scooby looks the obvious choice in the 5.40 Brighton and that is why he’s favourite. He handles soft ground but all his turf wins have come at 5f and today he races over 6f; he is 1/47 at today’s distance and must be opposed.

Novalist is another horse who likes to get his toe in and although he hasn’t won for over two years he will enjoy the conditions.

His record in going rated soft or heavy is 13741880 and although that suggests his form has regressed he did run with promise in the first half of the summer, finishing second twice at Southwell.

Robin Bastiman has made the long trip from Yorkshire to Brighton (only his fifth runner in five seasons at the track) and it is unlikely he will have made the journey on a whim.

At the prices, Novalist is worth the risk at 12/1 (Skybet).
