Big Whisky Has Measure Of Rivals

Big Whisky Has Measure Of Rivals

Ran a blistering 21.3s closing sectional at Lingfield (track riding fast) that was 0.4s quicker than his nearest rival.

Last time out Big Whisky finished fifth in a class 2 handicap at Lingfield but he ran a seriously fast 21.3s closing sectional, when anything below the 22s barrier is considered fast.

Normally we could pile in on the back of that number but there does need to be some context. Firstly the race was run at a pedestrian early gallop (108.5% finishing speed), which didn’t suit Big Whiskey but meant the final 2f was run like a sprint.

Secondly, the track was riding fast because numerous horses dipped below 22s and they can’t all have been world beaters.

Nevertheless, Big Whisky was still 0.4s faster than the second best closing sectional in the race, which means his performance deserves an upgrade.

A step up in trip and a drop in class both work in his favour and with John Best enjoying a good season he could bag another winner at 6/1 (William Hill).
