Bath Tip: Bateleur

Enjoys firm ground and the track brings out the best in him.

The 2.10 at Bath is a race that has sent me round in circles. I have been desperate to find something to oppose the favourite, alas there is nothing. There are so many horses out of form it seems folly to ignore the obvious chances of Bateleur.

A three-times winner in eleven starts, the track atop Lansdown Hill brings the best out of this horse. Bath is the only course in Britain that cannot water its track. After a prolonged period of dry weather the going can be firm. This rarity in modern racing suits Bateleur. He has placed six out of the ten times he has raced on official going described as ‘firm’, with three wins amongst them.

The Mick Channon gelding will enjoy ideal conditions. At a level where many of the horses have little in their favour, he has a very strong chance.
