Bath Tips: Bob’s Boy

Used to winning the race from the front but a step down in trip and running a slightly slower early fraction could yield further dividends.

Bob’s Boy tends to do things the hard way but he was a previous course and distance winner two starts back and is only 4lbs higher for that win.

Last time out he ran in the final of the Stayer’s Series at Bath but the extra 3 furlongs put pay to his chances. As per usual he set a frantic gallop but was unable to fight off the closers 2 furlongs from home.

Back down in trip, he should finish the race off better and there’s potentially further improvement if Renato Souza can apportion his mount’s energy more evenly.

Bob’s Boy strength is getting an early lead and blowing apart the race but his win at Bath came with a 94.8% finishing speed, which means he was slowing down at the finish. Renato Souza must expend some energy to get a clear lead but if nothing follows him, he could save some for the finish.

From a wide draw he can get the rail early in his race and he’s a big price at 12/1 to repeat what he did two starts back.
