Shriners Open Golf Tips: Scott Piercy

Home Sweet Home

The Las Vegan has the advantage of playing in his home tournament, with all his best results coming in Nevada

Born in Las Vegas, Scott Piercy returns home for the event at TPC Summerlin.  Playing in front of a partisan crowd seems to inspire the 32 year-old, with all his best results coming in Nevada. In 2007, he won the Ultimate Game tournament at the Wynn Las Vegas golf course, pocketing £2million in the process. At the start of August, he gained his first PGA Tour win at the Reno-Tahoe Open, also in Nevada. It seems the desert brings out the best in him.

The young American also has the game to thrive at TPC Summerlin. He hits the ball a mile, he ranks 7th on tour for driving distance, and makes lots of birdies. He ranks 27th on tour for par breakers. All good news when you need to go deep into the red this week.

On the way to his victory in Reno, Piercy shot a third round 61, the second lowest on tour this year. At a tournament where you need to average -5.5 per round to win this bodes well. The three men in a playoff last year all recorded at least one round of 63 or better.

Further links to TPC Summerlin can be found with Scott Piercy’s coach Tom Carlson. A respected Las Vegas golf pro, he runs the Summerlin Golf Academy and you would expect some useful tips have been passed on to his protégé this week.

With finishes of T28-T14 on the two occasions Piercy has played at Summerlin, expect an even higher finish this week, considering the form he is enjoying. At 50/1 with Betfred back him each way at ¼ odds for a top five finish.
