Shriners Hospitals Open Tips: Andres Romero

An attacking golfer who can go exceptionally low, he could take apart this straightforward resort course.

The Shriners Hosptials Open is applauded because of the money it raises for charity but the most generous benefactor is TPC Summerlin. Last year’s scoring average was 1.29 strokes under par, making it the second easiest par-71 on the PGA Tour.

The course is set up for a birdie assault and that should suit Andres Romero. The Argentinean is a slightly streaky golfer but when on song he can go low.

Three starts back he finished second at the Reno-Tahoe Open; scored using a modified stableford system the tournament favoured players making a large volume of birdies and eagles.

The Shriners Hospitals Open is a perfect fit because Romero’s game is geared around attacking golf. Many readers will remember his third place finish at the 2007 Open, when he fired 10 birdies in his final round.

In his last three visits to TPC Summerlin, Romero has finished T7-T28-T36 and at 125/1 (Stan James) he is a cracking each-way bet with ¼ odds for a top-5 finish.
