Houston Open Tips: Sean O’Hair

Finished T14 on his last visit and his lack of accuracy off the tee shouldn’t be punished too harshly.

Sean O’Hair might have been a losing tip last week at the Arnold Palmer but I saw enough to be tempted back in at big odds. He was in contention for a top-ten finish going into the final round before a round of 77 dropped him back to T29. It was still a respectable week’s work, especially considering he took a quadruple-bogey at the sixth hole on Friday!

The 29-year-old American is always worth a second look on courses which are forgiving off the tee. He ranks 151st for driving accuracy on tour but the last five winners of the Houston Open also ranked in the 100s.

This is the first time he has played the Houston Open since 2007, when he finished T14. It is a surprise he hasn’t played more regularly as the course should suit him. With the Masters around the corner, tournament organisers set up the course to provide a similar challenge to Augusta. Good news for O’Hair, who has enjoyed two top-15 finishes at the Masters in the last four years.

O’Hair ranked second last week for putts per GIR and if he can find a few more greens in Houston he could make a mockery of his 80/1 (Ladbrokes) quote. Back him each way and get ¼ odds for a top-6 finish with Ladbrokes.
