Northern Trust Open Tip: Harrison Frazar

Life starts at 40

Already bagged a pair of top-10s this season and shot a third round 65 at Riviera last year.

The St. Jude Classic of 2011 was a watershed moment in the career of Harrison Frazar. A veteran of over 350 PGA Tour events, the 40-year-old was elevated from journeyman pro, to PGA Tour winner.

That first win alleviated a huge amount of pressure; it’s no surprise he has started the 2012 season on a roll. A T5 at the Tournament of Champions was followed by at T2 at the Sony Open, results that leave him 11th in the FedEx Cup standings.

One of the hot players, Frazar ranks an incredible third in the PGA Tour’s all-around ranking, a measure that will be severely tested at Riviera CC. The omens are good. He shot a third round 65 last year and has a couple of top-20 finishes to his name from back in 2006 and 2007.

With several of the big names still looking to blow off the cobwebs, I’m much happier to side with an in-form player at 110/1 with Stan James. Back Harrison Frazar each way with ¼ odds for a top five finish.
