Honda Classic Golf Tip: Ricky Barnes
Finished fourth last year and arrives in even better form. Enjoys difficult courses.
I tipped Ricky Barnes to win the Northern Trust Open a couple of weeks ago and although he finished T62, there was enough encouragement to side with him again.
The 30-year-old American tends to save his best golf for tough courses with a classic set-up. He finished fourth in the Honda Classic last year, landing his biggest cheque of the season. That result was after a T72 at the Northern Trust so if anything he arrives in better form!
Historically prone to the odd error, Ricky Barnes has honed his scrambling ability this season. He currently sits 25th on the PGA Tour for scrambling compared to 117th last year. Greens aren’t easy to hit at PGA National and the improvement in his game could see him finally break into the winner’s circle.
Back Ricky Barnes each way at 80/1 with Ladbrokes, who are paying an extra place, and go ¼ odds for a top six finish.
