Honda Classic Tips: Brendan Steele
Finished T14 last week but could not buy a putt. His consistent play should be rewarded very soon.
This is the third time I’ve tipped Brendan Steele this month but we should keep the faith because he is perilously close to winning.
Last week at Riviera he finished T14 but it was an opportunity missed, particularly on the greens.
Tee-to-green Steele gained more shots on the field than Matsuyama, Casey, Sang-Moon Bae and Garcia, all of whom finished in the top-7. Unfortunately, his putter was freezing cold and he could not capitalise on his excellent iron play.
In eight starts this season, the 31-year-old is yet to miss a cut and if he keeps knocking on the door eventually he will be rewarded.
Steele hasn’t missed a cut in four starts at the Honda Classic and finished only six shots behind the winner last year. He looks primed for a big week at 100/1 (William Hill).
