Golf Outsider: Africa Open

The European Tour teams up with the Sunshine Tour again for the Africa Open at East London Golf Club. Louis Oosthuizen and Charl Schwartzel have dominated the event in recent years but with both absent ,the tournament has an open look to it.

Shaun Norris was a previous winner of the Africa Open in 2008 when it was played at Fish River Sun CC but the change of venue hasn’t dampened his appetite for the event. In the last two years, he’s finished T8-T14 at the East London Club and with a recent T4 at the Telkom PGA Pro-Am he arrives in good form.

After three sub-70 rounds, Tyrone Ferreira found himself ninth going into the final round of last year’s Africa Open only to stutter on Sunday and drop back to T29.  The 25-year-old will be keen not to make the same mistake and arrives in excellent form, with two top-20 finishes in his first two starts of the year.

Danie van Tonder is only in his second year on the Sunshine Tour, but the 21-year-old looks a promising golfer. He registered seven top-10 finishes on tour last year and has started 2013 in excellent form with a T19 finish at the Joburg Open.
