Africa Open Trends

The European Tour stays in South Africa for the Africa Open. We look at the trends of past champions.

The European Tour continues its affiliation with the Sunshine Tour for the Africa Open starting on Thursday.

In one form or another, the Africa Open has been around since 2008, with the last six editions played at East London Golf Club.

Just like the Joburg Open, South Africans dominate the field but don’t be put off because the honours board is full of familiar names.

Let us look at the five previous champions for clues:

Top-30 on tour for scoring average in 2014 or 2015
The field is packed with unheralded South Africans from the Sunshine Tour but they struggle to match their European Tour counterparts. The roll of honour is full of recognisable names and each of the last six winners ranked inside the top-30 on tour for scoring average.

Players that fit the trend:
Andy Sullivan 11/1 BetVictor
Byeong Hun An 20/1 BetVictor
Gregory Bourdy 28/1 Bet365
Seve Benson 60/1 Bet365
Richie Ramsay 66/1 Skybet
Rikard Karlberg 70/1 Betfred
Edoardo Molinari 80/1 BetVictor
Adilson Da Silva 150/1 BetVictor
