Big Fichardt In A Small Pond

Won the tournament last year and has started the season strongly with three top-20 finishes in the Middle East swing.

We saw at the Joburg Open the pressure the home contingent feel, the leaders stumbling over each other trying to lose the tournament.

That puts me off the majority of the local challengers but not Darren Fichardt.

The 38-year-old has 18 wins to his name, 13 of them on the Sunshine Tour, including last year’s Africa Open.

The South African should make a bold bid to defend his title. He started the season strongly with three top-20 finishes in the Desert Swing before missing the cut on the number last week.

Fichardt has never played the Joburg Open particularly well (T25 best finish in eight starts) therefore a missed cut does not concern me. At 25/1 (Bet365) he is a cracking each-way bet.
