Germany seem to have immense strength in depth while Portugal look like something of a one-man team. The problem they have is that the one man is currently unfit.
Rather like France, Germany have recently lost one of their top attacking players to injury but immediately showed they could hammer lowly opponents anyway. Marco Reus will miss the finals with an ankle injury sustained against Armenia, who were hit for six in the same match.
Unlike Didier Deschamps, Joachim Lowe still seems to have an embarrassment of riches at his disposal and it isn’t out of the question that Germany will take 9 points from Group G at best odds of 3/1 with BetVictor.
Portugal has been left holding its breathe with the news that Cristiano Ronaldo is suffering with tendinosis. They have only scored once in two warm-up games without him and it remains to be seen if he will recover 100% and in time. They are a vastly diminished team without the Madrid star and perhaps 19/10 (Sportingbet) on a first round exit for Paulo Bento’s boys is worth considering.
