York Tip: Wizz Kid

Finished ahead of several of his rivals on soft ground in France. Likely to reproduce that form.

It is disappointing that last year’s winner Sole Power is unlikely to defend his Nunthorpe title on account of the ground. The soft going has added an unpredictable element to an already difficult race.

French form found us Royal Ascot winner Prohibit and I’m going back to the same race for York. In the Prix Du Gros-Chene Wizz Kid finished in front of Prohibit and he can do so again. At Chantilly he let Inxile and Prohibit both get first run on him yet he still found a finishing kick to overhaul them both.

That race was on soft ground and with similar forecast here, he is one of the few to have winning form under the conditions. Only three-years-old, it is fair to assume progression in him and he also gets a handy weight allowance over his older rivals.

Hoof It deserves a mention, especially as he is a worthy favourite for the race. I can see him winning this calibre of race, but his two recent defeats have been on soft ground. Having been predominantly campaigned at six furlongs there are enough chinks in his armour.
In a tight division, this Group One sprint can go to the A* pupil - Wizz Kid.
