York Musidora Odds

In 2009 Sariska won the Musidora on the way to success in the Oaks and this year’s renewal should again be a good pointer for the classic.

We run through the runners in card order:

1. Amazing Beauty: 7/2
Never raced on turf but that shouldn’t be a problem based on pedigree. She won her maiden easily enough although she was flattered by having the run of the race. Overall her form doesn’t look strong but her stable are flying after an excellent Chester festival.

2. Arizona Jewel: 7/4
Delivered a fair Sandown maiden in good style, although nothing has come out of that race since and won. Henry Cecil has taken this race twice in the last four years but her price is quite short given what she has achieved.

3. Barefoot Lady: 5/2
Finished fifth in the 1000 Guineas, beaten over five lengths. A step up to ten furlongs looks to be the limit of her stamina. Even if she were to win this, it is a slim chance she could turn around the form with Blue Bunting in an Oaks.

4. Joviality: 7/1
Although still a maiden she finished a close second in a conditions event at Sandown. Was travelling best up the straight but greenness cost her the race at the finish. That was only her second start so should improve bundles for the run.

5. Whey Sauce: 66/1
Well beaten twice in her two-year-old career, she has not been seen since. At big odds she will have to improve dramatically to win this.

Conclusion
Despite the small field Amazing Beauty and Arizona Jewel should force the pace to make it a proper test of stamina. That will severely question Barefoot Lady and it might turn out she does not stay. At the odds JOVIALITY looks to be the value bet. She has shaped with promise on both her starts and should relish a step up in trip.
