Wolverhampton Horse Racing Tips: Yungaburra

Much more effective over the minimum trip and ran well last time out despite pulling too hard.

I tipped Yungaburra last time out at Kempton and gave him an ultimatum. If he didn’t run a good race then I was giving up on him. I hold my hands up, I made a mistake. Firstly, I doubt the horse (or connections) read this column, and secondly six furlongs isn’t his optimal trip.

Five of his seven wins have come over five furlongs and they simply went too slow for him at Kempton. He took a strong hold around the bend using up the energy that was needed for the finish. The jockey must take a share of the blame, Yungaburra is much better when raced prominently, and Tom McLaughlin gave up the advantage of an inside stall too easily.

The draw hasn’t been as kind tonight, stall nine is not ideal, but not insurmountable either. Steve Drowne takes over the reins, and hopefully rides the horse more prominently. Yungaburra’s record over course and distance is five wins from eleven races. This really is last chance saloon, but at 12/1 (Paddy Power) he rates a good bet in the 5.15 at Wolverhampton.
