Wolverhampton Tips: York Glory

A smart prospect last season, he now seems capable of living up to his potential.

Seven days ago York Glory produced one the best sprint performances of the all-weather season so far. After setting a decent early gallop he had enough energy reserves to fight off Swiss Cross and finish 4.5 lengths ahead of Haamaat in third.

He clocked such a good time, I awarded him a speed rating of a Listed class horse. Reading the comments in the Racing Post after the race, it wasn’t totally unexpected.

“He´s been fairly disappointing as he shows a hell of a lot at home and we thought he might go to the top, but he enjoyed that surface far more than the slow ground he´s been running on turf and hopefully he´s turned a corner.” Remarked jockey Phillip Makin.

I can understand why connections rated him so highly. As a 3-year-old, he finished fifth in the valuable Portland Handicap, beaten only one length.

In the 3.20 Wolverhampton he doesn’t face anything near the calibre of horses he’d find in the Portland. He should run out an easy winner at 7/4 (Paddy Power).
