Wolverhampton Horse Racing Tips: Wooden King

Dane O’Neil has a 27% strike for the trainer and the horse has the perfect draw for his running style, tight against the rail in stall one.

Given the amount of all-weather racing, and only the four tracks to choose between, I am surprised to see so many horses with poor track records in the 4.00 at Wolverhampton.

Incomparable, Punching and La Capriosa have a combined record of 2 wins from 38 races at Wolverhampton, a 5.2% strike rate. Compare that to a record of 16/84, and a 19% strike rate away from the track.

The paper favourite Prince James can also be thrown out. He won his last two races with very little to spare and stall 13 is a terrible draw for this prominent runner. He isn’t handicapped well enough to overcome the disadvantage.

All this means that we are running out of live contenders until we get to Wooden King at 6/1 with Betfred. A previous course and distance winner, he has the ideal draw for his front running style.

His last run at Kempton can be ignored as he was posted four wide all race. A much better indication of his form is the second place at Wolverhampton at the start of October. He looked the winner for a long way but the extra furlong, he raced over six that day, proved beyond him. Dropped to five furlongs, he is back in his comfort zone.

Dane O’Neill takes the ride, which is another positive; he is sparingly used by trainer Malcolm Saunders but when he is employed, take note. He has a 27% strike rate for the Somerset trainer with six wins from 22 rides.
