Wolverhampton Tips: Whipphound
Twice a course and distance winner and unlucky when badly hampered on his last visit.
At odds-on Steelcut has to be taken on in the 3.00 Wolverhampton. His record at five furlongs is 3wins-6races compared to 1win-5races at six furlongs. Today’s race is over six and it should be run at a furious gallop; really stretching his stamina.
Whipphound is a duel course and distance winner and a return to his favourite track could spark him into life. On his last visit he looked desperately unlucky to finish sixth, only 2.5 lengths behind the winner. His jockey went for a brave move up the rail only for the gap to disappear. By the time he was switched wide the race was over, with better luck he would have gone very close.
After a lean winter, trainer Mark Brisbourne has his string running much better, with four winners in February. Whipphound has shown enough to suggest he is up to this level and is overpriced at 10/1 with Ladbrokes.
