Wolverhampton Tips: Tarooq

Campaigned at a lowly grade but clocked a fast time on his last start, good enough to win a class 3 handicap.

After his last victory in a seller, trainer Stuart Williams was quoted in the Racing Post as saying Tarooq, ‘Can’t win from his rating of 88 in a handicap’. Yet 15 days later, he is attempting to do just that in the 2.15 Wolverhampton.

If connections studied his last race, they probably saw the same thing as me. Despite it being a seller, Tarooq clocked a remarkably quick time when taking the track variance into account. I awarded him a speed rating good enough to win a class 3 handicap, and that is the grade he races in today.

Considering he is a 7-year-old, he is extremely lightly raced. This will be only his 20th career start and looking at his profile I suspect he is a fragile horse. Having said that, he’s won his last two starts and went close off this mark a year ago. If he stays sound he must have an excellent chance of winning at 13/2 (William Hill).
