Wolverhampton Tips: Song Of Parkes

Change of tactics produced a career best performance.

I’m often dubious when a horse produces a massive speed rating out of the blue. Either I have made a mistake in my maths or there’s been a change in the track layout that I haven’t accounted for. Having double checked for every conceivable error I can only conclude that Song Of Parkes put in a lifetime best on her last start.

Her talents were masked on her first all-weather start when she chased a suicidal pace, eventually finishing well beaten in 12th place. That performance saw her sent off at 18/1 for her second all-weather race, a contest she comprehensively won by 2.5 lengths. Trainer Eric Alston put the improvement down to different jockey tactics; she was ridden more conservatively and was able to finish the race much more strongly.

She carries a big weight in the 6.15 Wolverhampton, but drops down a class level. If she can produce anything like her last performance, she should blitz this field at 3/1 (Bet365).
