Wolverhampton Tips: Showboating

Raced well against a strong pace bias on his last start. Stable also starting to hit form.

After a sticky couple of months Alan McCabe’s runners have regained their form and he’s got an exciting prospect in the 5.00 Wolverhampton.

Showboating enjoyed an excellent 2012 but was unfortunate to register only one win. He was never beaten more than 4.5 lengths all year, including some forays into class 3 company.

On his last start over 7f at Wolverhampton he was the only horse to make any headway from the back of the field. A position he was lumbered with after being hampered in the first furlong of the race.

On 17 November 2012 there seemed to be a strong pace bias, with horses held up at a severe disadvantage. Summerinthecity and Fathsta who raced with Showboating in the rear, improved 14lbs according to Racing Post Ratings over their next three starts.

If Showboating shows the same level of improvement on a fair track, he could run to a mark of about 90. That would be good enough to win the race, especially off an official mark of 77. At 7/1 (William Hill) he is a good bet.
