Wolverhampton Tips: Shawkantango

Been running well and takes an eye-catching drop in class. Apprentice jockey replaced with a stable favourite.

Two starts ago I remarked how Shawkantango relishes a slow surface at Wolverhampton and he ran accordingly, finishing a good fourth. Unfortunately, he couldn’t land the spoils because the quality of the opposition was too strong.

This evening he drops down in grade for a class 6 handicap at 5.00 and that should make the difference. He tends to get outpaced in his races, but against slower horses he should be able to keep in touch before delivering his telling turn of foot.

Connections have replaced the apprentice Adam McLean with the vastly more experienced Joe Fanning, which is almost a tip in itself.

The one downside is that Shawkantango is in the first race of the evening. That means we won’t be able to assess the state of the polytrack, but with temperatures forecast to drop to around 2C, I expect the track to be riding slightly slower than standard. At 5/1 (Bet365) he rates the value bet in the race.
