Wolverhampton Tips: Sabys Gem

Clocked a good time when winning over course and distance back in March. Had excuses on his last two runs.

The betting in the 2.20 Wolverhampton follows the same order as the ratings but it is the wrong approach to take in this seller.

Red Cape is the top rated horse but he hasn’t been running like it of late. He tends to peak in the height of summer and his record from March to May is just 1 win from 27 races.

Steelcut is much better over the minimum trip and Chjimes is 0/18 at Wolverhampton. Quite quickly, we can remove three of the top four in the betting and the race suddenly opens up.

Catalyze is a big danger, especially if the market moves in his favour. He landed a massive gamble on his last start but perhaps he’s served his purpose now. At bigger odds I like the look of Sabys Gem.

You can ignore his last run at Bath as he is woeful on turf. Prior to that he finished 10th at Wolverhampton but he was only beaten 4.75 lengths, on a day where it was very difficult to win from off the pace.

He has course and distance winning form, whilst also achieving a speed rating that puts him on a par with many of today’s rivals. At 25/1 (Stan James) he is simply overpriced.
