Wolverhampton Tips: Needwood Ridge
Won three times at the track and a big price if fully wound up after a long absence.
The racing is about as enticing as the weather but at a massive price Needwood Ridge has a squeak in the 1.50 Wolverhampton.
Rakaan, the odds-on favourite, will be difficult to beat but his short price has created some each-way value further down the field. Needwood Ridge is a 3-time winner at the track and has placed on a further five occasions from 16 starts.
He is a decent yardstick at this level; the only times he has raced in class 6 company he’s finished first and second. Being a claimer, the race is slightly stronger than a class 6 handicap but he shouldn’t be outclassed.
The big worry is his 329-day absence but trainer Frank Sheridan has managed to send out winners off long breaks before. At 40/1 (Betfred), Needwood Ridge has each-way claims with 1/5 odds for a top-3 finish.
