Wolverhampton Tips: Mother Jones

Has won more races in 2012 than the rest of the field combined. Stands out in a race of frustrating individuals.

In the 2.45 Wolverhampton, the bookies have made the classic mistake of pricing horses according to their official handicap marks. This is a lazy error. Many of them are struggling to recapture past glories and that is why they find themselves in a seller.

Take Matsunosuke for example. He is rated 82 because three years ago he was capable of winning a listed race on the all-weather. Unfortunately, those days are long gone. Since 2011, he has only finished ahead of 4 horses, never looking like winning despite racing in claimers.

It is a similar story for Crimea and Falasteen, both have becoming disappointing, failing to win races a couple of years ago they would have gobbled up.

In these types of contest, recent form is more crucial than ever. The only horse who has displayed any semblance of ability is Mother Jones. He has won twice this year, both times at Wolverhampton, with one of the triumphs in a class 5 handicap. This is comfortably the best form on offer. The rest of the field can only musert one win in 2012, and that was Decider winning a seller with only 4-runners.

Mother Jones might not be the highest rated horse in the field but on current form he is the best. He should be favourite for the race, therefore snap up the 11/2 with William Hill.
