Wolverhampton Tips: Lucky Dan

Won his last three starts in class 5 handicaps and drops down in grade for the first time in almost 4 months.

With wetter, milder weather taking hold this week, we shouldn’t be seeing the slow times we got at Wolverhampton 11 days ago. The track shouldn’t be riding deep and therefore the likes of Cardinal and Shawkantango won’t have the advantage they enjoyed on their last outings.

With the track riding Standard, I am much keener on the chances of Lucky Dan at 11/2 (William Hill). After running creditably in class 4 company on his last two starts, he drops into a class 5 handicap. The ease in grade should make a big difference, as he’s won his last three starts in class 5 handicaps.

Lucky Dan wears blinkers for the first time in his career and although he has the ability to win without them, Paul Green has applied headgear to good effect before. He has a 10.5% strike rate with horses wearing blinkers, in line with his overall strike rate.
