Wolverhampton Tips: Jarrow

Is 3/3 over 6f on polytrack and runs his best races when fresh. Romped home by 4.5 lengths around this time last year.

The 4.05 Wolverhampton is a cracking sprint handicap and I suspect Jarrow could cause a minor upset.

He’s not seen that often on the all-weather which is slightly surprising given his 6f record on polytrack is 111.

Around this time last year, he made his seasonal debut at Wolverhampton romping home by 4.5 lengths in a class 4 handicap. Although he is up in grade today, it was such an impressive performance I think he can defy the rise in the weights.

The other factor in his favour is that he arrives fresh.

Record after 100+ day break: 151

Jarrow seems at his best after a long break, twice winning after a lengthy absence. Both those wins came on polytrack, where he recorded Racing Post Ratings of 96 & 93, the highest two marks he’s earned in his career.

The downside is that Milton Bradley rarely has his horses ready after a long absence. In the last five years, he has a 1.3% strike rate (2/153) with horses returning after a 100-day absence or more.

The one glimmer of hope is that the yard have had three second places from eight runners in 2013, all returning from lengthy breaks and all at big odds.

I’m sure connections will have noted that Jarrow has his ideal conditions today and at 12/1 (William Hill) he is the value in the race.
