Wolverhampton Tips: Ghostwing

Change of yard has revitalised the horse and a step up to 6f should bring further improvement.

After breaking the course record at Southwell ten days ago I’m surprised to see Ghostwing is still a backable price (4/1 with Paddy Power) in the 6.10 at Wolverhampton.

His record-breaking run must be put into context. He was racing on the straight five-furlong track with a howling gale on his back. I have adjusted my speed ratings to take this into account but he still comes out with a very respectable number.

His new trainer, James Evans, is starting to get to the bottom of this horse. After two no-shows, Ghostwing has now finished first and second in his last two starts, recording speed figures within a point of each other, based on my own ratings.

A step up to six furlongs should eek out further improvement, as that is the trip both his turf wins have come at. Once rated in the mid 90s, his current mark of 82 shouldn’t be beyond him. Fergus Sweeney travels up from Lingfield this afternoon for his only ride of the evening. It is a unlikely to be a wasted journey.
