Wolverhampton Tips: Elna Bright

Finished best of the stand’s side group in his last race at Goodwood. Has a good strike rate at this level.

The 5.50 at Wolverhampton is packed full of front runners, with several five furlong horses trying their hand at six. With so few 0-90 races on the all-weather it is no surprise trainers are trying to fit square pegs into round holes.

One horse that has ideal conditions is Elna Bright. A useful seven furlong performer, he has shown himself adept at sprinting with a win over five furlongs at Ascot. In time, six furlongs will prove to be his optimum.

His last run of the turf season was at Goodwood where he was desperately unlucky. The race revolved around horses drawn low and from stall 14 his jockey had no choice but to race with the smaller stand’s side group. Although he travelled well for a long way, he was on the worst part of the track. He finished sixth overall but crucially he was 2.25 lengths ahead of the nearest horse from his group.

The strong pace should collapse, playing into the hands of this hold up horse. Stall 12 should not be an inconvenience as the pace will ensure there are plenty of gaps as the field is strung out. With nine wins from 45 races, back this frequent winner at 12/1 with William Hill.
