Wolverhampton Racing Tips: Defence Council
Recent second over course and distance in a fast time despite chasing an overly strong early pace.
It all went wrong for Defence Council last time I tipped him but he can win us our money back in the 2.25 at Wolverhampton.
It is fair to say he ran an absolute stinker at Southwell, but there were possible excuses. It was his first race on fibresand and perhaps he didn’t handle the surface, most of his form is on good to firm turf or polytrack. Even if the surface wasn’t to blame the draw could have been. The three highest drawn horses all raced up against the unfavoured nearside rail and they filled the last three positions.
Scratch that Southwell performance, go back one run and there is plenty to like. Defence Council finished second in a higher grade over course and distance when chasing home Elna Bright in a very quick time. He was one of the few horses to lie up with the scorching early pace and still battle out the finish. A repeat of that performance would see him go close at 8/1 with Betfred.
