Wolverhampton Tips: Courageous

Slipped to a very workable mark; finished third in a class 2 contest back in March and races three grades lower today.

Theresnoneedfordat dominates the market for the 6.15 Wolverhampton but he looks poor value at 5/4. He’s never been shorter to win a race but this is his toughest contest to date; not an appealing equation.

At a more workable price, I’m drawn to Courageous. A strike rate of 2 wins from 44 starts is off-putting but I don’t think he’s ungenuine, he’s just been badly handicapped. He started his 3-year-old career rated 101 and wasn’t good enough to win off such a high mark.

The handicapper has finally relented and he races off a career low of 75 today. Unfortunately, he’s not been able to capitalise on the leniency as he’s been forced to race on firm ground, when all his best form comes with cut.

I’m guessing connections didn’t predict this week’s deluge or have him entered in any suitable turf races. It’s a sensible move therefore to direct him to the polytrack where he’s run well before.

Back in March he chased home the useful Alben Star and Whaileyy, finishing third over course and distance. That was a class 2 contest, three levels above the grade he is racing in today. At 15/2 (BetVictor) he looks cracking value.
