Wolverhampton Tips: Brocklebank

Beaten only a length in a Listed contest despite being rated 84. Has a decent turn of pace that could prove crucial in a small field.

Brocklebank put in one of the surprise performances of the all-weather season when finishing third, beaten only a length in the Listed Quebec Stakes at Lingfield, despite being rated only 84.

The betting markets are usually wary of such results but on sectional timings I actually made Brocklebank the moral victory of that race and by some margin!

The 5-year-old came from last to finish third with a blistering run, clocking 22.39s for the final 2f. It was the fastest sectional in the race and could be considered an unlucky loser because of the sluggish early pace and his poor position.

It is difficult to explain why a thoroughly exposed horse (50 starts) showed such dramatic improvement; perhaps he was flattered by the slow pace but nevertheless it was an eye-catching run.

He’s clearly got a decent turn of pace and in a small field that could be enough to win the 3.40 Wolverhampton at 11/1 (William Hill).
