Wolverhampton Tips: Boom The Groom

Ran a blistering 21.8s closing sectional at Lingfield and better drawn today.

The 5.20 Wolverhampton is a cracking sprint handicap and although I’ve always been a big fan of Tarooq, he looks vulnerable in a handicap off a mark of 105.

The market thinks Pretend is the likely winner given his unexposed profile but Boom The Groom is the pick of the 3-year-old generation.

In a similar contest at Lingfield last week he ran an eye-catching race, flying home from the rear to finish second but running the final 2f in 21.84s, the quickest sectional in the field.

It takes a good horse to dip below 22s at Lingfield and he was arguably unlucky having been forced to race in rear from a wide draw.

He’s yet to finish outside the first two in four all-weather starts and looks a sprinter to keep onside.

The likes of Secondo (good time achieved with ease) and Fairway To Heaven both have claims but from stall 1, Boom The Groom looks the best bet at 5/1 (Coral)
