Wolverhampton Tips: Avonvalley

Fared best of the stand’s side horses on her last run at Nottingham. Should have the race run to suit, and in good form.

The 4.50 at Wolverhampton presents me with a real quandary. Wreningham is the type of horse who can record a speed rating well in excess of his handicap mark only to run a clunker next time out. I know because I’ve been burnt with this horse before.

Last time out he won by 2.75 lengths in a quick time and is favourite to do so again. Having recently joined Pat Eddery, the change of scenery could have revitalised him but I’m wary. At the current prices, it is an easy decision to avoid him

At 8/1 with Ladbrokes, Avonvalley is much better value. A previous course and distance winner she was unlucky on her last start; finishing third and best of the horses drawn high at Nottingham. She is starting to string together a run of consistent results matched by good times on the clock.

She runs for trainer Peter Grayson, a yard that has struggled for winners in the last few years. As a result horses from this stable can drift in the better so I’d recommend forgoing a point or two on the price and back with a bookmaker offering best odds guaranteed.
