Wolverhampton Tip: Examiner
Fastest closer when third in a similar race 16 days ago. Had a poor draw that day and although gate 9 is far from ideal, it is an improvement.
The 3.45 Wolverhampton is largely a repeat of a big handicap run over course and distance 16 days ago. Seven of today’s field ran in the race won by Mythical Madness but don’t expect the same result.
Examiner was the eye-catcher back in third and he must be counted as unlucky. Held up from stall 13, Sean Levey was forced to sit in suffer in rear as they went a steady early gallop.
With 2f to go, Examiner was still 8.1 lengths behind the leader, a hapless position but he rallied in style. The 5-year-old covered the final 2f in 23.15s making him the fastest closer in the race by 0.27s.
The draw hasn’t been kind again but stall 9 is workable in a smaller field. He won a valuable handicap at Epsom earlier in the year and off a similar sort of mark can bag another good prize.
