Wolverhampton: Porthgwidden Beach

The only recent winner amongst a moderate bunch of horses.

The 5.15 at Wolverhampton is a weak race, no surprise seeing as it is limited to horses rated 0-55. The shock is that recent winner Porthgwidden Beach is 9/1 with William Hill.

To put into context, her rivals have had 61 races with not a single win between them; and that is just looking at the short form, it might be even longer! By showing the aptitude to win Porthgwidden Beach is the stand out bet for that reason alone.

Studying the form more closely there are further reasons for optimism. The three-year-old filly is having only her fourth start for trainer Anthony Middleton and has finished first and third on her last two runs. It looks like the trainer is getting to grips with his new charge.

With very few miles on the clock I’d expect further improvement from the horse; especially with a step up in trip. Last time over five furlongs she got outpaced before he stamina kicked in.
