Weekend of National Hunt Betting

There are four grade ones in Ireland plus top cards at Newbury and Warwick for National Hunt fans to enjoy.

An excellent day of jumps racing is in prospect with Newbury and Warwick live on Channel 4 and the rearranged Hennessy Gold Cup meeting at Leopardstown.

In the higher echelons of three mile chasing there aren’t many opportunities. So when the big guns are absent Riverside Theatre and What A Friend will be looking to make the most of their chances in the AON at Newbury (2.25pm).

Finians Rainbow, the 4/1 favourite for the Arkle, runs in the Kingmaker at Warwick. His form knockers might finally fall silent as he faces his biggest chasing field to date; three horses.

No such problem in the Totesport Trophy Hurdle with 23 runners declared for the 3.35 at Newbury. Get Me Out Of Here is 10/1 with Coral to repeat last year’s victory although he has achieved absolutely nothing this season. In a race where six of the last eight winners have carried 10-9 or less there is bound to be a plot horse lurking down the bottom of the handicap. Those wishing to bet each way should note that Blue Square are going 1/4 odds, 5 places in the race.

Over in Ireland Mikael D’Haguenet and Zaidpour are well fancied favourites to take the Grade 1 Novices home with them. If that isn’t enough there is also racing at Lingfield, Wolverhampton and Ayr (subject to inspection).
