Newbury Tips: Desert Water
Ran the sixth fastest closing sectional from last 619 runners at Goodwood and should improve for the run.
The 5.00 Newbury might have a small field but there is plenty of quality in the line-up with three horses owning a 100% record. Dabyah and Wuheida are battling for favouritism but it’s the biggest of the trio that catches my eye.

Sent off at 14/1, Desert Water wasn’t expected to win on debut at Goodwood but she showed a tremendous turn of foot to come from last to first in a very slowly run race. She clocked the fastest closing sectional of the race by 0.44s and the sixth fastest at the track (measured from 3f out) from 619 runners.
Given her speed she might be better over 7f and Richard Hannon was confident she’d improve for the run at Goodwood.
Horses that run fast sectionals early in their career usually have something about them and Desert Water looks a promising individual.
