Two-Year-Old Trophy Tip: Medici Banchiere

Two-Year-Old Trophy Tip: Medici Banchiere

Impressive winner at Carlisle and not disgraced in Group 2 company on last two starts. Third highest rated horse in field and can make his class pay.

The Redcar Two-Year-Old Trophy is a sales race therefore weight is decided by a combination of sales prices (of the sire’s yearling stock) and race performance. Unlike a handicap therefore you can find horses rated 100 carrying the same weight as those rated 80.
With almost £100,000 up for grabs trainers have been quick to exploit this factor.

In the last five years horses rated 90+ have been beating more than 50% of their rivals (50% is par) whilst those rated 89 or lower have struggled. In summary, the cream rises to the top.
This year there are five horses rated 90+ and that is the area to focus on. Claims can be made for all five but the one I like most is Medici Banchiere.

He’s not won since trouncing a moderate field at Carlisle but that’s been down to the company he’s been keeping. His last two starts have been in Group 2 and he’s run well in the circumstances. Last time he cut out the running (away from the field) in the Gimcrack, a race that has worked out well with The Last Lion and Blue Point going on to finish 2-1 in the Middle Park Stakes.

Medici Banchiere has run three consecutive speed ratings in the mid-80s and against weaker opposition he can finally step out of the shadows.
