Strong Windshear At Chester

Chester Ormond Stakes Tips: Windshear

Caught flat footed when a steadily run John Porter turned into a sprint. Will be better suited by this longer trip.

With eight runners declared for the 3.10 Chester and Bet365 going ¼ odds for a top-3 finish we have a wonderful opportunity to engage in some each-way thievery.

Windshear was only beaten 3.5 lengths in last year’s St. Leger and I’m pleased to see connections have stepped him back up in trip.

He ran a decent race in the John Porter at Newbury but hit a flat spot as the pace increased two furlongs from home.

The steady early pace (110.8% finishing speed, source: Timeform) didn’t suit a horse who has stamina in abundance and he was understandably tapped for toe as the pace increased two out.

Richard Hannon has reached for the visor in an attempt to make him concentrate but I think the pace of the race will have a larger impact.

A strong gallop would suit Windshear and even if this doesn’t materialise he faces less speedier rivals over this longer trip.

If the eight runners stand their ground, Windshear is a cracking each-way bet at 7/2 (Bet365)
